unlocking sweet memories

Week 6 - "ARCHAEOLOGICAL DIG" - collect objects that relate to your childhood or inspire memories.

I thought of food - candy - this brings up many memories - buying a bag full of candy for probably a few dollars for long car trips - I had fun going on the internet and finding the candy packaging - thinking of my favourites.

i see coffee

Week 5 - "Start a collection based on the first found object you see on your walk, whatever that is.  You decide what the connection between the objects is (can be based on shape, color, size, etc)."
... one of the first things I see each morning - is a delicious (most of the time) cup of coffee!  I decided then to collect coffee cards - and my aim was to try a different place each day (sometimes more than one place) - my favourites were two black sheep and the Bathers' Kiosk.

After collecting the cards - I wanted to do something arty - so I prepared my own "coffee cards" on the reverse (except for three) -

Some good quotes found in the process:

"coffee smells like freshly ground heaven" jessi lane adams

"I never laugh until I've had my coffee" clark gable

"Behind every successful woman is a substantial amount of coffee" stephanie piro

i see the LIGHT

Week 3 - "Light vision - start to pay attention to light patterns, Reflections, and projections. Consider that they are everywhere. Document them."

I took a photo incorporating LIGHT each day - sun reflecting on rain, in a carpark, windows in the gym cycle room, light coming through a blind, the Pool of Reflection (Hyde Park) and Amy (guest contributor) gave me a great photo of the morning light on her flight over!  I wanted the photos to reflect the word calm in some way.

I also made some mini cards that had the word CALM on them - (I like that my first and middle initials are contained in the word "calm").

Notice Anything ?

Week 2 - "Experience Collection" - make a list of things that you notice on your travels or experiences you have.

I knew I wanted to start off this week's "exploration" by sketching my Monday morning breakfast (which I have after a cycle class at the gym) in the food court under my building.  I have Sonoma Wholewheat Miche Sourdough with five berry jam and a large skim cappuccino from Workshop Espresso - read the newspaper and just chill before I have to get into work. A great way to start the day / week!

I was inspired by 2 Melbourne artists - Dawn Tan drew what she ate every day (and weighed it as well) for eight weeks and  Daniella Germain drew everything she bought (to cut her spending).  I thought this was an interesting concept - drawing something to change or to raise awareness.  Although I drew / sketched my breakfast - I thought that I would photograph everything I ate for the rest of the week.  Definitely made me more aware of what I was eating - a creature of habit?  A ingenious Weight management program?

Keep Calm and Do Art

It has been nearly 1 year since I lasted posted on my blog (not good).  One one of my 2012 resolutions was to get back to it (good idea)!

So - last year, my word was "possible", this year I have chosen the word "CALM".

The KEEP CALM and CARRY ON British poster was on my desk for a few years - reminding me of what I needed to do at work.  This is the first page of my daily diary for 2012!

In addition to keeping the blog going - I also wanted to get back into art work again (on a regular basis) - I thought about a daily challenge - but decided on a weekly one.

Each week - I will use a prompt from "HOW TO BE AN EXPLORER OF THE WORLD" by Keri Smith as inspiration - and will complete at least an art journal page.  I also have added to my challenge to some how incorporate the word "CALM" into my weekly art (or something that reminds me of this word).

Week 1: Exploration #1
WRITE 10 THINGS ABOUT WHERE YOU ARE SITTING RIGHT NOW THAT YOU HADN'T NOTICED WHEN YOU SAT DOWN. USE YOUR SENSES. DO IT QUICKLY. DO NOT CENSOR.  OKAY BEGIN.

I quickly wrote down 10 things I saw - and took a quick picture (I'm sure they guy who sits next to me thought this was very strange).  Today I completed this art journal page noting the 10 things I spotted.  My computer screen was a boring blue so I covered my computer screen with a photo I had taken at the beach on 2 Jan.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

February 2011

I nearly got through February without a post.  Not good.  Today I completed my February "One Little Word" class for my word "possible".  We needed 9 photos that reflected our word.  My photos reflect some of my 2011 resolutions and sources of inspiration for the year.
